James Rowland Clanton, Jr.

Jimmy was born, raised and attended schools in Thomas County.  He was a member of the first Central High School football team where he lettered as defensive/offensive end.  Jimmy also played basketball, but it was track where he excelled.  He ran the high hurdles and participated in the long jump all four years in high school and was All State in both events.  After graduation from high school, Jimmy attended the University of Georgia where he became the second Dr. Clanton with a degree in veterinary medicine.  Jimmy returned to Thomasville where he has quietly and humbly given much of his time and efforts to many organizations.  He is a member of First Baptist Church where he has been a deacon and is involved in developing outreach programs such as the Men's Ministry and Twin Oaks Ministry.  Jimmy is a Gideon and is past President of the Thomasville Kiwanis Club.  In 2004 Jimmy was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Thomasville/Thomas County Chamber of Commerce.  He was recommended for this award because over a sustained period of time, he made the support of this community a part of his life's accomplishments.  Jimmy Clanton truly is a positive role model for people of all ages.
